The Pretoria Scottish Country Dance Club was formed on 6 July 1972 by Ina Bergh, Cooks Dauth and Hetty Nash. The club became a branch of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society in 1982. We currently have about 30 members, ranging from advanced dancers to some very enthusiastic beginners.
We dance every Thursday evening, except before Good Friday and during the Christmas - New Year period, in St Columba’s Presbyterian Church hall, Hilda Street, Hatfield, Pretoria. Classes are held at the following times:
| Class | Time | Teacher |
|---|---|---|
| Beginners | 20:00-21:00 | Irene van Maarseveen & Wouter Joubert in rotation |
| General | 20:00-21:00 | |
| Tea | 21:00-21:15 | |
| Combined | 21:15-22:00 | |
| Advanced | 19:00-20:00 | Wouter Joubert & Irene van Maarseveen in rotation |
In 2008 we dance until Thursday 11 December, and reopen on Thursday 8 January 2009.
Classes cost R5 per evening for branch members (R10 per evening for non-members) or a discounted rate of R200 for the year. Your first evening is free. Branch membership costs R120 per year and entitles members to the branch newsletter The Tartan Track, as well as reduced fees for certain branch events. Membership of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society costs an additional R130 per year (i.e. R250 total); this entitles members to the biannual RSCDS magazine Scottish Country Dancer, which includes new dances, as well as some member-privileges and discounted prices.
We have an active demonstration team who are pleased to perform at social functions, be it formal dinners, wedding receptions or outdoor events – and we'll even get the audience to join in with some dances if you like. Contact RSCDS Pretoria Branch for more information.
